We envision a network of vibrant, attractive community gardens and portable mini-farms curbside to promote healthy living and enhance well-being across all neighborhoods. Rolling Roots brings urban agriculture directly to the people.
THE PROBLEM
As a result of systemic decisions and failures, fresh vegetables are scarce in certain urban areas. Additionally, finding suitable land for urban agriculture is challenging in these regions. Community gardens offer a potential solution to alleviate food injustice, but they are often located far from residential areas or face threats from development. Furthermore, when community gardens are established, they frequently lack accessibility for people with disabilities or physical limitations. Portable mini-farms can serve as an alternative to create more access to fresh produce in these underserved areas.
OUR MISSION
Rolling Roots' mission is to provide neighborhoods with portable mini-farms that serve as community gardens for soil-based growing, fostering healthier living and nurturing multi-generational community building. Urban agriculture offers opportunities for neighbors of all ages, experiences, and abilities to come together, promoting better nutrition, strengthening community ties, and taking action against climate change.
OUR RESPONSE
Community gardens and urban agriculture initiatives are vital because they foster community, promote food sovereignty, and provide opportunities for people to adopt healthier and more nutritious lifestyles.
We envision a world where hyper-local, micro-scale community farming, including portable mini-farms, is possible everywhere, granting communities access to fresh and nutritious vegetables.
Our rolling raised growing beds and portable greenhouse, designed using circular design principles, will facilitate curbside growing, composting, public art, skill building, and multigenerational knowledge sharing.
We are repurposing and modifying old shipping containers and creating rolling beds with steel scraps and discarded wooden pallets. These sustainable design elements are fundamental aspects of our urban agriculture project.
